About Us

Located on the São Carlos campus of the University of São Paulo (USP), the Database and Image Group (GBDI) is a research group dedicated to the development of advanced methods for data management, image analysis, and artificial intelligence. The group conducts interdisciplinary research that integrates database systems, computer vision, machine learning, and visual analytics, with a strong focus on real-world and high-impact applications.

GBDI works on the design of scalable, efficient, and intelligent solutions for handling large, heterogeneous, and complex datasets, particularly in contexts where data-driven decision-making is critical, such as healthcare, biomedical imaging, and multimedia information systems.

Our main research areas are:

  • Database systems and data management;
  • Medical and biomedical image analysis;
  • Computer vision and pattern recognition;
  • Machine learning and deep learning;
  • Visual analytics and information visualization;
  • Multimodal data integration and analysis;
  • Clinical decision support systems and health informatics.

The main activities of our group, include:

  • Fundamental and applied research in databases, image analysis, and artificial intelligence;
  • Development of algorithms, models, and computational tools for large-scale data processing;
  • Integration of multimodal data, including structured data, images, and temporal signals;
  • Collaboration with national and international research groups and industry partners;
  • Training of undergraduate and graduate students in computer science and related areas;
  • Dissemination of scientific results through publications, software, and open platforms.
