The ICMC/USP Databases and Images Group (GBDI) in São Carlos works on the development of techniques and tools to store, index, retrieve, and analyze large sets of complex data. Its main focus is on complex data increasingly stored in Database Management Systems, including audio, time series, genomic sequences, and especially images. With regard to images, the Group is particularly interested in the analysis and efficient retrieval of medical exam images. Therefore, the main activities of GBDI are:
Image feature extraction and comparison
Indexing of complex data
Selectivity estimation and cost modeling
Similarity queries in databases
Data mining and analysis of complex data
Information visualization in large complex datasets
The main research areas are:
Image and Database Management Systems (IDBMS)
Content-Based Image Storage and Retrieval (CBIR)
Indexing and query optimization for similarity retrieval
Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS)
